Facilities

The Mason PhonLab houses equipment for collecting and analyzing articulatory, acoustic, and perceptual data. To study articulation, the lab has the Micro ultrasound system from the Articulate Instruments Ltd. for imaging tongue body movement, with a lip camera for capturing the concurrent lip movement. To make acoustic recordings, we use a variety of microphones, hand-held recorders, and a USB audio interface. Facilities for perceptual testing include several laptop computers, Cedrus response boxes, and circumaural headphones. A sound-attenuated booth is used for making recordings and for carrying out perceptual experiments.
